When I see a forklift operator grab onto the overhead guard of their forklift, twisting their body and cranking their neck to back up. I always wonder if they’re not worried about the load they have on the forks? What about causing damage with that very load while backing out. If the forklift operator is showing concern, regarding the load, you’ll see them snap their head back and forth like spectators at some kind of demented tennis match. Really? Really? Is that necessary? Will someone get this operator some forklift mirrors please!
Although there are only a few types of forklift mirrors it doesn’t take away from the safety advantages these simple tools will provide. Mirrors are essential especially in facilities that are highly populated with workers on the floor and fellow forklift operators. Most forklift mirrors will offer a convex, wide angle view to enhance the field of vision. These mirrors usually have swivel mountings that can be placed in many angles to optimize the forklift operator’s viewing area. They even have swivel mounted forklift mirrors with a magnetic mount.
With all of the safety equipment that companies supply their workers such as, safety glasses, back braces, hard hats, protective gloves, etc.. You would think, if anything, forklift mirrors would be high on the list with even the smallest of businesses considering the severity of product damage and serious bodily injuries that could occur. It just makes sense!
