Joel D. Anderson, the former president of the International Warehouse Logistics Association, has been awarded the group’s recently renamed distinguished service award.
Although the IWLA has passed out the annual award for the past 19 years, it’s the first time it’s been awarded since it was renamed the Jock Menzies IWLA Distinguished Service and Leadership Award.
“Jock” Menzies was the co-founder and former president of American Logistics Aid Network, which mobilized logistics networks and warehousing in the wake of natural disasters. He created the group after witnessing the bungled handling of relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Menzies died in 2013.
Anderson, who retired in March after seven years at the helm of the IWLA, was recognized for his contribution to the trade group’s mission, according to Tom Herche, president of United Warehouses and IWLA board chairman.
“In seven years of service to IWLA, Joel Anderson dedicated himself to making IWLA a powerful force in Washington and the organization a leader in providing education and resources to the warehouse logistics industry,” Herche said. “Joel build an influential network of business professionals.”
Anderson said he was grateful for the opportunity serve the industry he loves.
“My experience at IWLA was a rewarding one that gave me an overwhelming sense of professional accomplishment as well as personal gratitude to the members who I look to as friends,” Anderson said. “I will cherish this moment of recognition as a reminder of my final and most rewarding career experience.”
The award was presented during the IWLA’s annual convention and expo, held in March in Phoenix, Arizona.
