Seasonally adjusted truck tonnage volumes ended 2013 up 0.6%, hitting an all -time and adding to November’s 4.7% jump, according to statistics released by the American Trucking Association. December 2013’s truck tonnage was up 8.2% compared to December 2012. The grou’s figure is calculated by adding up all the monthly tonnage data reported by its member carriers for the prior two months. Bob Costello, ATA’s chief economist, said he expects truck tonnage to continue to rise during 2014.
