Shipbuilders at the Newport News ship yard, in Virginia, have been created an early Christmas for thousands of area schoolchildren and other people in need in their community. Workers at the Huntington Ingalls Industries division at the shipyard recently donated nearly 20,000 school supplies to area students, donated another $2 million to the local United Way, and delivered more than 20 metric tons of non-perishable foods to an area food bank. Shipbuilder spokesman Chavis Harris said the workers appreciated everything the community had done for them over the years and wanted to give something back.
