A Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, based maker of engineered industrial bulk material handling and processing equipment recently gave itself a nice anniversary gift celebrate its 40th year in business: An expansion doubles the operational space of its headquarters.
Later this month, Flexicon will complete the $6.3 million addition that adds 90,000 square feet to its current 91,000 square foot facility. The expansion allowed the company to add 50 new jobs to its 138-person workforce.
Flexicon president David Gill said the new facility will double the size of its steel forming, welding, grinding/polishing, and blasting/painting department and quadruple the size of its electrical controls department. It also will increase the size of its factor acceptance testing area by eight times, including expanding its ceiling height to 38 feet.
“Doubling the size of our US headquarters is a fitting way to mark Flexicon’s anniversary and exponential growth,” Gill said in a company news release.
The company makes makes equipment and systems for many markets, including food, chemical, mining, construction materials, pharmaceuticals and petroleum. One of Flexicon’s newest product lines is a tubular cable conveyor designed to carry fragile items such as coffee, cereal and nuts.
The expansion was partially funded by $2.25 million in low-interest state loans, as well as $222,500 in state grants and tax credits.
