The use of domestic containers has outperformed other modes of transport during 2013, increasing 9.3%, while overall intermodal transport grew 4.6% during the past year, according to statistics released by the Intermodal Association of North America. International intermodal transport also showed growth, expanding 2.3% during 2013. Of the seven largest corridors within the US, the Midwest-to-Southeast showed the biggest growth, expanding 12.9% over the same quarter from the year before. This was due largely to the Southeast’s exposure to domestic containers, according to the report.
